Bali blast involves SANFL premiers Posted: 14 Oct 2002 12:40 PM |
Our sister club, the Sturt Football Club in the SANFL was involved in the Bali bombing. They were there celebrating their premiership. Two players are unaccounted for. Send your well wishes here: http://sturtfc.com.au/homepage/homepage.htm

Heartfelt sorrow to the guys from Sturt footy club and everyone else affected by the bombing in Bali.
The feeling here for me is somewhat similar yet vastly different to the September 11 attack last year. People here are far less focused on what happened, although I'm sure no less concerned. A substantial positive for me comes from the fact that I can go down to training tonight and be with my Aussie mates. Although I have not been directly affected by what happened, I think everyone (particularly Aussies) have been emotionally scarred in some way by this. Having a footy team with good Aussie mates, is a great form of therapy for those of us here, who perhaps need good company in a time like this. While we bicker about footy here, I'm sure all of us would agree that having our game in this country is great for our culture and our missing home, being so far away. Particularly in trying times.
See you all this weekend.

I have made a decision that we will all wear arm bands and have a minute silence before the first St. Louis game.
My wife was in the air last September and we have a family friend who's body is still missing in BALI.
Steigs, your points hit home with me! But with us pushing forward shows the weak bastards that we will not give in to their in human acts.
It takes a big person in my book to hide behind screens, and harm the inocent.

<font face='Tahoma'>Just sent an email to Sturt FC - that minute of silence might be a good thing all throughout the weekend. Just knowing people thousands of miles away who don't know me or anyone here from Adam stopped for a few moments to think of us after September 11 really did help us deal with things a little better. It isn't much, but it would be fitting. Be seeing you!

| In another footy-related injury to the bombings, North Melbourne Kangaroos defender Jason McCartney was in intensive care after receving burns and shrapnel injuries to his back, neck and legs...he and fellow 'Roos defender Mick Martyn were at a pub across the street at the time of the blast...they had arrived in Bali after the club's end of season trip to New Orleans...Martyn sustained minor injuries. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these and all people involved in this terrible tragedy. |

Seems there were several clubs affected by this, I'm hearing of other small clubs with players involved.
