Nineteen teams are expected to compete, including the Peace Team consisting of Israeli and Palestinian players who have united in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Canada, China, Denmark, Fiji, Finland, Great Britain, India, Ireland, Japan, Nauru, New Zealand, Spain, Papua New Guinea, Sweden, Samoa, Tonga, South Africa and the United States have also entered teams, representing the highest number of participants in the International Cup to date. Previous International Cup winners were Ireland in 2002 and New Zealand in 2005.

Players must be citizens of their country with expatriate Australians ineligible to play.

Australian Football 150 Year Ambassador Kevin Sheedy said the carnival would enhance 150 Year celebrations both in Australia and internationally.

"I've seen first-hand how people throughout the world are embracing the greatest game in the world,” Sheedy said.

“To be able to bring Australian Football people together in Warrnambool and Melbourne will be a highlight in a year of celebration."

Games will be held in Melbourne from August 27 and Warrnambool from September 1 and the tournament will culminate with the final on September 6.(AFL Australia-150years.com.au)
